Grigor Dimitrov started the new year with success - win in the first round of the 75'000 USD ATP Challenger in the capital of New Caledonia - Nouméa. Dimitrov defeated in straight sets 7-5 6-4 Alex Kuznetsov of USA, ATP rank 198, to advance to the second round. Grigor will add 8 ATP ranking points to his balance with this win. In the second round his opponent will be Michael Yani of USA, Seed 8 of the main draw, ATP Rank 164. Two months ago Grigor Dimitrov defeated Michael Yani in first round of the ATP Challenger in Charlottesville in three sets 7-5 1-6 7-6(3).
Later on Tuesday, Grigor Dimitrov and his partner Alexandre Sidorenko (France) defeated the French brothers Guillaume and Mathieu Gonot 6-2 6-2 in the opening round of the doubles tournament. In the quarterfinals the Bulgarian-French pair will play the experienced Frenchmen Nicolas Devilder /Edouard Roger-Vasselin.
Both singles and doubles matches of Grigor are on Wednesday at Court W. N'Godrela in the late afternoon local time.
