Grigor Dimitrov ousted world No 1 Novak Djokovic 7-6(6) 6-7(8) 6-3 in the second round of the ATP Masters in Madrid. The young Bulgarian survived cramp and lost match point in the second set but was successful in the decisive set and sealed the biggest win in his career in more than 3 hours.
The spectators on the central court loved the play of Grigor and were chanting "Di-mi-trov! Di-mi-trov!"
With this historical win for the Bulgarian men's tennis over world No 1 Grigor added 90 ranking points which currently position him to a new best place of 26.
The next opponent of Grigor Dimitrov will be decided on Wednesday between seed 15 and rank 15 Stanislas Wawrinka (Switzerland) and the qualifier Santiago Giraldo (Colombia), rank 81. The exact hour of the match on Thursday will be announced late on Wednesday.
