In the second round of the ATP 250 tournament in Munich, Germany, Grigor Dimitrov defeated Seed 4 Marcos Baghdadis of Cyprus, No 25, with a score of 3-6 7-6(6) 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time in his career. The start of the match was not in Grigor's favor. Baghdatis took the first set 6-3. In the second set both players did not allow breaks of their service games and the set was to be decided by a tie-break. The Cypriot was serving with 2 matchpoints. Grigor brilliantly saved them and won the next point to win the set 7-6(6). In the third set Dimitrov dictated the game. He broke the game of Baghdatis to 2-1 and after taking his service game another break lead the result to 4-1. Grigor had no problems to take his next service game by scoring his 8th ace to 5-1. The young Bulgarian took the 3rd set on his next service game 6-2.
For reaching his first ATP tour quarterfinal Dimitrov will add 45 ranking points to his balance.
His next opponent will be decided later today between Teymuraz Gabashvili, Russia, and Seed 5 Florian Mayer, Germany.
Later today Dmitrov will play his doubles match in partnership with Philipp Petzschner of Germany against the Robin Haase of the Netherlands and Lukasz Kubot of Poland.
For reaching his first ATP tour quarterfinal Dimitrov will add 45 ranking points to his balance.
